KEYNOTE OPENING: Policies and initiatives in the Cloud - edge - data continuum and their application in the digital transformation of industry

Leire Orue-Echevarria Arrieta - Policy Officer - DG CONNECT European Commission

Cloud and Edge computing are enabling technologies involved in the digital transformation of industry and are also revolutionising how businesses manage and use their data. The data economy has now become cornerstone of the industry where managing, capturing, storing, processing and using data, both in centralised (cloud) and decentralised (edge) and federated architectures, is crucial, especially for strategic decision making and innovation. In this context, the European Commission has launched several initiatives and policies to strengthen digital infrastructures and data security in the European Union. This Keynote will discuss the important project of common European interest (IPCEI) in cloud infrastructures and services (IPCEI-CIS), in which more than 100 companies from 12 Member States are participating and which has an investment of 2.6 trillion, the creation of intelligent middleware in open software for the federation of data spaces and infrastructures, the Data Act that favours portability and interoperability between cloud services or the Data Governance Act, which seeks to create a common regulatory framework for the exchange of data between companies, guaranteeing data security and privacy, among other things, and their application to the industrial sector.
